How PDF Scanner handles your data.
Last updated: October 27, 2026
1. Who we are
PDF Scanner (package com.nexlab.nexpdf) is an Android app made by NexLab Studios ("NexLab", "we"), based in Doha, Qatar. We are the controller of the personal data described here. You can reach us at hello@nexlabstudios.com.
2. What stays on your phone
Your documents never come to us. PDF Scanner has no accounts and no NexLab server that receives your files. Everything below is processed on your device only:
| Data | What happens to it |
|---|---|
| PDFs and images you open, scan or create | Scanning, cropping, merging, splitting, compressing, converting, signing, redacting, watermarking, password tools and every other feature run on your phone. We never upload or read them. |
| Text extraction (OCR) | Done on the device with Google ML Kit's bundled text-recognition model. The text is not sent anywhere. |
| Camera images (document scanner) | Captured and cropped on the device and saved as a PDF there. The app does not record video and does not use the camera in the background. |
| Saved signatures, recent files list, settings | Stored in the app's private storage on your phone. |
| Passwords you type for a PDF | Used on the device to open or protect that file. They are not stored and not sent anywhere. |
| Working copies | To open files shared into the app and to produce results, the app keeps copies in its private storage. Old copies and results you no longer list in Recent Files are removed automatically after a period of time. Uninstalling the app removes them all. |
Files you choose to save to Downloads or share with another app go where you send them, under that app's or folder's own rules.
3. What leaves your phone, and why
PDF Scanner does not ask you to create an account or give us a name or email address. The only data that leaves the phone is collected by the third-party services below.
3.1 Advertising (Google AdMob)
The free version shows ads from Google AdMob (banner, native, interstitial, app-open and rewarded ads). AdMob may collect your advertising ID, approximate location derived from your IP address, device and app details, and how you interact with ads. Subscribers to Premium see no ads. To limit ad personalisation, use Android settings, Google, Ads.
3.2 Consent (Google User Messaging Platform)
In the EEA, the UK, Switzerland and other regions where the law requires it, Google's consent form appears when you first open the app. Ads and analytics only start after your choice. You can change it later in Settings, Ad privacy choices, which appears where it applies.
3.3 Usage analytics (Firebase Analytics)
We use Firebase Analytics to see which tools are used and whether purchases complete, so we can improve the app. Events include things like "a tool finished" (the tool name only), "an ad was shown", and "a Premium purchase completed". Analytics never include your file names, file contents or extracted text. Firebase also receives device and app information and approximate location.
3.4 Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics)
If the app crashes or hits an unexpected error, Crashlytics receives technical details: the error and stack trace, app version, Android version, device model and a random installation identifier. It does not receive your documents.
3.5 Subscriptions (Google Play Billing)
Premium is an optional subscription (monthly or yearly) sold through Google Play. Google handles payment, and we never see your card or billing details. The app checks your subscription status with Google Play on your device. Your purchase status is kept on your phone so Premium keeps working offline for a short time. We do not run our own account or payment system.
4. How long data is kept
| Data | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Your files and results | On your phone until you delete them or uninstall the app. We hold no copies. |
| Analytics and crash data | Held by Google (Firebase) under its standard retention settings. |
| Advertising data | Held by Google AdMob under its own policies. |
| Subscription records | Held by Google Play under its own policies. |
5. Deleting your data
There is no PDF Scanner account to delete. To remove everything the app stores on your phone, clear the app's storage in Android settings or uninstall it. See the data deletion page for steps, including how to cancel a subscription and how to reset your advertising ID.
7. App permissions
| Permission | Used for |
|---|---|
| Internet and network state | Ads, consent, analytics, crash reports and subscription checks. |
| Camera | Capturing pages in the document scanner, only while it is open. |
| Storage (Android 9 and older only) | Saving files to Downloads. Newer Android versions use the system file picker and need no storage permission. |
You can withdraw any permission in Android settings.
8. Security
Because your documents are processed on your phone and not transmitted to us, they are protected by your device's own security. Connections to Google services use HTTPS. No system is perfectly secure, so keep your phone locked and updated. Password protection added by the app uses AES-256 encryption, and it can only be removed with the password.
9. Your rights
You can ask us what we hold about you, to correct or delete it, to give you a copy, or to stop using it for a purpose you object to. Because we hold no account data, most of what exists about you sits with Google (ads, analytics, crashes, billing) and you can manage it in your Google account, Android settings and the in-app privacy choices. Email hello@nexlabstudios.com for anything else. We aim to reply within 30 days. We handle personal data in line with Qatar's Personal Data Privacy Protection Law (Law No. 13 of 2016) and, for people in the EEA and UK, the GDPR, relying on your consent where Google's consent form applies and on our legitimate interest in keeping the app stable and measuring its use. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
10. Children
PDF Scanner is not aimed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app or in the update notes.
